PURPOSE:

Petrolatum is a conditioning, occlusive agent. Petrolatum is great at preventing water loss and giving the hair a soft feel. It is hydrophobic and forms an outer layer on hair and skin to trap water.

IMPLICATIONS:

It is hydrophobic and forms a barriers that traps moisture so it is not the easiest to rinse off. Its barrier also prevents additional moisture to enter the hair shaft.
