PURPOSE:

A foam booster and thickener. It has poor detergent properties but works well when combined with other surfactants.

IMPLICATIONS:

A mild irritant and a possible cancerous ingredient (based on animal studies) if combined with certain other chemicals. However, it's been approved as safe for use up to 10% in leave-on products.
