PURPOSE:

DMDM Hydantoin is an antimicrobial agent. This ingredient is a  formaldehyde releasing surfactant used to prevent the growth of microbes in water based formulations.

IMPLICATIONS:

As a formaldehyde releasing preservative can be very toxic and irritating. It has been linked to hair loss and sever scalp reactions.
